Nedmag brings magnesium-based sodium reduction to Fi Europe

Novasal Blend offers one-to-one salt replacement, 30% less sodium, added magnesium and reliable European sourcing

There is no shortage of talk about sodium reduction, but replacing sodium with something different is not automatically better. At Fi Europe 2026, Nedmag will ask food producers and journalists a more useful question: what does the replacement genuinely add? Visitors can taste the answer at stand 41G13 at Messe Frankfurt, 17–19 November.

Novasal Blend directly replaces regular salt one-to-one, enabling a consistent 30% sodium reduction without recipe or process changes while maintaining taste and technical performance. It also adds magnesium, with all components sourced from the ancient Zechstein Sea for consistent quality and reliable European supply.

“There are many ways to reduce sodium, but making an ingredient different does not necessarily make it better,” said Willem-Jan Bakker, Business Development Manager Food at Nedmag. "Novasal Blend is simple: replace salt one-for-one, reduce sodium by 30% and add magnesium, without changing the recipe or process."

It is a clean-label mineral solution from a reliable European source, and members of the media and visitors can taste the results at Fi Europe.

Put sodium reduction to the taste at stand 41G13

  • Aged Dutch cheese: De Veendammer is a full-fat 48+ Dutch cheese made with magnesium salt from the Zechstein Sea. Produced by De Venehoeve, it contains 1.5 g of salt and 120 mg of magnesium per 100 g, while retaining a rich, creamy flavour and smooth texture.
  • Tomato cream soup: Developed in cooperation with Yama Products, the soup is made with Novasal Pure, achieving at least 35% sodium reduction while maintaining its rich flavour.
  • Savoury cheese puffs: Light, freshly baked cheese puffs with a creamy Veendammer cheese filling. Made with Novasal Blend, they achieve over 30% sodium reduction while preserving their rich, savoury flavour and texture.

Taste first, then discuss: ask Nedmag about lower-sodium opportunities across bakery, dairy, soups, sauces, snacks, meat and ready meals.
